MILAN FASHION WEEK FALL 2011: MOSCHINO & PRADA
Although my favorite shows and designers come out of Paris, I only look forward to a couple of Italian designers every season, and MOSCHINO has always been on the top of my list. This fall collection shows what exactly makes Moschino different and fun from other Italian fashion houses. Black and white mix-ups, and boyfriend inspired looks were on various looks throughout the collection. Military and utilitarian inspired, but very Italian, these girls were tough looking but very preppy and fun. I love this presentation for fall and cannot wait to hear more positive acclaim for this cohesive and beautiful show.
Cult-favorite and legendary fashion house, Prada had the most talked about fall presentation this past week. Miuccia Prada gave us everything this season, it was a buffet of crazy looks and separates, but most importantly absolutely gorgeous. The collection started subtle with solids then moved into colorful combination of plaids all matched with boots that resembled socks in a mary-janes. Opaque blouses and skirts in cream and charcoal were understated but a breath of fresh air throughout this journey of a collection. My favorite pieces were those cocktail numbers at the end that looked like colored fish-scales. The way those mermaid-inspired dresses moved on the runway were breathtaking, and very editorial. I can't wait to see my favorite starlets gracing the cover of i-D magazine in what we will be calling 'the fish scale dress'. Some fashion collections trigger a memory of the past, and some like this one, evoke an emotion that is truly astounding.
